What Capgo is

Capgo sells over-the-air updates for apps built with Capacitor. You build the web layer of the app, upload a bundle with the command line tool, and devices running the Capgo updater plugin fetch and apply it. The about page describes the path as upload, sign, encrypt, route through channels, deliver, observe and recover.

The pricing page frames every plan as the same product with different limits. Live updates, notifications, the Observe release-health view, native builds, plugins and automations are listed on all plans, and the plans differ by monthly active devices, bandwidth, storage, build hours and support.

Features worth knowing

  • Live updates for JavaScript, HTML, CSS and static assets, with release channels, staged rollouts and rollback to the last known good bundle.
  • A command line tool and a server for AI coding agents, so a release can be published from a terminal, CI or an assistant.
  • Native iOS and Android builds in the cloud, counted in build hours that differ by plan.
  • Native push notifications and a release-health view called Observe.
  • More than 150 open-source Capacitor plugins maintained by the team, per the pricing page.
  • A pay-as-you-go option with no plan, where usage is paid with credits.

Who is behind it

The about page says Capgo started in 2021 as a self-funded maker project and calls itself bootstrapped and remote-first, with a core team of five covering product, native work, support and delivery. It describes the updater plugin and much of the wider ecosystem as open source that teams can read and self-host.

The page also describes Capgo as a path for teams leaving other update tools, and names events at other vendors as the reason. I have not repeated those statements about other companies, because I did not verify them.

Source: capgo.app/pricing, read 2026-10-19. The page says a monthly active user is one device that checks for updates in a rolling 30 days, counted per app, and that on reaching a limit new downloads pause while the installed version keeps running.

My arithmetic on the monthly-billing prices, per 1,000 monthly active devices at the plan limit: Solo about $7.00, Maker $3.90, Team $0.99 and Enterprise about $0.25. Paying yearly on Maker costs $396 against 12 times $39, or $468, for twelve monthly payments.

Alternatives

Other routes for shipping updates to a mobile app include Expo EAS Update, Microsoft CodePush, Ionic Appflow and running your own update server.

Who it fits

  • A startup with a Capacitor app in production that wants to ship small fixes quickly.
  • A solo developer who wants live updates, builds and notifications on one plan rather than three vendors.
  • A team that cares about reading the updater code and prefers open source tooling.
  • Not a fit: an app built on a different framework, or a product that has no mobile app.

Is it worth it

The stated prices fall steeply per device as the plan grows, and every plan carries the full feature list, so the choice is mostly about how many devices check in and how much you download. The warning emails at 50, 70, 90 and 100 percent of a limit, and the stated rule that overages are never charged without confirmation, make the cost easy to predict.

The main condition is fit. All of this applies only to Capacitor apps, and live updates cover the web layer rather than native code, so a change to native code still goes through the stores.

How it relates to a card-backed trial

Capgo states a 14-day trial with no credit card, and the pricing page repeats it above the plan cards. That is the no-card model: anyone can try the product with nothing on file.

The trade-off is the one every software seller faces. A no-card trial lowers the barrier to starting, and a card-backed trial raises the share of starters who are real buyers. TrialValid holds the plan price on the card before the trial begins and shows the end date, which suits sellers who want the second shape. You can test either shape against your own sign-up numbers with the trial conversion calculator.

Questions people ask

Does Capgo work for apps that use another mobile framework?

The about page describes it as built specifically for Capacitor apps, so it is not a general tool for other mobile frameworks.

What happens when I reach a plan limit?

The pricing page says new update downloads pause while the app keeps running its current version, and that you can upgrade or add credits whenever you choose. It also says overages are not charged without your confirmation.

Is a card needed to start the trial?

The pricing page says the 14-day trial needs no credit card. Plans are then billed monthly or yearly after you add payment details.
