What Bannerbear is

You design a template once, with layers for text, images and shapes. Bannerbear then fills those layers with data and returns a finished image, which makes it handy for social share cards, product banners, certificates and similar repeat jobs. The pricing page also lists animation, video and PDF generation.

You can call it through a REST API, a hosted form, a workflow, a no code connector or over MCP, which the pricing page says lets an AI assistant create templates and run workflows from chat.

Features worth knowing

  • The unit of billing is the credit. The pricing FAQ says one image render costs one credit, multiplied by the number of formats and by the scale you ask for.
  • Animations cost two credits per second of output, rounded up, and rendering at 60 frames per second doubles the cost.
  • Video tools cost between one and four credits each. Burning subtitles is the highest at four, because it transcribes the audio first.
  • AI features such as background removal and face detection cost one extra credit per layer that uses them, and AI credits are a separate monthly allowance.
  • When credits run out the page says requests are refused with a message that shows how many were needed and how many remain, rather than billing you into a negative balance.

Who is behind it

The about page says the team is headquartered in Singapore and works 100% remotely from across the world. It lists a founder who joined in January 2020 and a small team of support, design and marketing staff with join dates. We repeat only that, since the page gives no other company history.

Alternatives

Other image generation services include Placid, Creatomate, Cloudinary and Imgix. We list names only and have not compared them.

Who it fits

If you make a handful of images a month, a design tool is simpler. Bannerbear starts to pay off when the same layout is reused hundreds of times, for example one share card per blog post or one banner per product.

Teams who need a template shared with colleagues, or controls such as SSO and audit logs, are the ones the higher plans address.

Is it worth it

The credit model is easy to model. Take your monthly image count, multiply by formats and scale, and compare it with 1,000 credits at $49. Animations and video use credits much faster, so a video heavy plan may need the Scale or Enterprise steps.

The trial matters here, because it lets you build a template and run real renders before you commit to a credit size.

How it relates to a card-backed trial

The pricing page says you can start a free trial with 30 API credits and no credit card, and that trial accounts are limited to one workspace and three templates of each kind. A trial this small lets a buyer test the real product at low cost, then the decision comes without a card on file. A card-backed trial, as set out in Product, keeps the same low commitment to start and moves the first charge to a date the buyer saw. If you price by credit use, the ROI calculator can help you see what a lift in conversion is worth against the plan fee.
