Stripe's fee on an A$100 Australian card payment is A$1.95 with GST included, so you keep A$98.05. Charge A$101.98 to receive A$100.

Example with the default inputs:

| Input | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Payment amount | 100 |
| Payment method | Australian card (1.65% + A$0.30) |
| Currency conversion (adds 2%) | No |

| Result | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Fee | A$1.95 |
| You keep | A$98.05 |
| Charge to keep the full amount | A$101.98 |
| Share lost to the fee | 2.0% |

Working:

1. Australian card is 1.65% + A$0.30.
2. The percentage part: 1.65% of A$100.00 is A$1.65, rounded half up to the smallest unit.
3. Add the fixed fee: A$1.65 + A$0.30 = A$1.95.
4. The fee is A$1.95, so you keep A$100.00 - A$1.95 = A$98.05.
5. Stripe states its Australian card and PayTo fees include GST, so the fee shown is the whole amount taken.
6. To keep the full A$100.00, charge A$101.98: the fee on that is A$1.98, which leaves A$100.00.

## What Stripe charges in Australia

A local Australian card costs 1.65% + A$0.30, and Stripe states that the figure includes GST. Take A$100: the percentage part is A$1.65, the fixed part A$0.30, and the total taken is A$1.95. Your balance receives A$98.05.

As a sentence, the fee is the rate times the payment, rounded to the nearest cent, plus the fixed amount. As algebra, f = round(a × r) + c and what you keep is a − f. GST is already inside both parts, so there is no separate tax line to work out.

## Local cards, international cards and conversion

International cards are priced at 3.5% + A$0.30, which is A$3.80 on A$100. When the currency has to be converted, a further 2% applies and the rate becomes 5.5%: A$5.80 on the same payment. Conversion applies to the international line only, so a local card never carries it.

| Case | Rate applied | Fee on A$100 | You keep |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Australian card | 1.65% + A$0.30 | A$1.95 | A$98.05 |
| International card | 3.5% + A$0.30 | A$3.80 | A$96.20 |
| International card, converted | 5.5% + A$0.30 | A$5.80 | A$94.20 |
| Zip | 5.49% + A$0.30 | A$5.79 | A$94.21 |
| PayTo or BECS | 1% + A$0.30, cap A$3.50 | A$1.30 | A$98.70 |

> Stripe's Australian page carries a note that lower international card pricing starts on 1 Apr 2027. Until that date the rate in the tool is the one on the page today, and this page will follow the price list when it changes.

## Small sales in Australian dollars

Thirty cents is a small amount on a large sale and a big one on a small sale. The table walks the local card from A$2 to A$500 so you can see where the share settles near the headline rate.

| Payment | Fee | You keep | Share lost to the fee |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| A$2.00 | A$0.33 | A$1.67 | 16.5% |
| A$5.00 | A$0.38 | A$4.62 | 7.6% |
| A$10.00 | A$0.47 | A$9.53 | 4.7% |
| A$20.00 | A$0.63 | A$19.37 | 3.2% |
| A$40.00 | A$0.96 | A$39.04 | 2.4% |
| A$100.00 | A$1.95 | A$98.05 | 2.0% |
| A$250.00 | A$4.43 | A$245.57 | 1.8% |
| A$500.00 | A$8.55 | A$491.45 | 1.7% |

## PayTo and BECS: pricing with a cap

Bank payments cost 1% + A$0.30, cap A$3.50. The cap starts to apply at A$319.80, so everything above that costs a flat A$3.50. A made up trade business that invoices 40 jobs of A$450 in a month pays A$309.20 in fees on local cards and A$140.00 over PayTo or BECS, a monthly gap of A$169.20.

| Payment | PayTo or BECS fee | Local card fee | Left in your pocket with a bank payment |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| A$50.00 | A$0.80 | A$1.13 | A$0.33 |
| A$100.00 | A$1.30 | A$1.95 | A$0.65 |
| A$320.00 | A$3.50 | A$5.58 | A$2.08 |
| A$450.00 | A$3.50 | A$7.73 | A$4.23 |
| A$1,000.00 | A$3.50 | A$16.80 | A$13.30 |
| A$2,000.00 | A$3.50 | A$33.30 | A$29.80 |

On A$2,000 the local card fee is A$33.30 and a bank payment costs A$3.50. Buy now pay later through Zip costs A$5.79 on A$100.

## Setting a price that nets a round figure

The charge that leaves a chosen amount is found by solving the sum backwards, because the fee grows with the charge. The table gives the charge for a local card.

| You want to receive | Charge the customer | Fee on that charge |
| --- | --- | --- |
| A$10.00 | A$10.47 | A$0.47 |
| A$25.00 | A$25.72 | A$0.72 |
| A$50.00 | A$51.14 | A$1.14 |
| A$150.00 | A$152.82 | A$2.82 |
| A$500.00 | A$508.69 | A$8.69 |
| A$1,000.00 | A$1,017.08 | A$17.08 |

## Things to keep in mind

- Disputes: Stripe lists a dispute received fee of A$25.00 for each dispute, which is 50% of a A$50 payment.
- Amounts are worked in cents with half cents rounded up, and a result that would be zero is refused with a message.
- Network fees can apply in rare cases and are not predictable from the price list.
- Billing, Radar and other products priced separately by Stripe are not part of this tool.

## Questions about Stripe fees in Australia

### What does Stripe charge on an A$100 Australian card payment?

A$1.95 in total, GST included. That is 1.65% of the payment (A$1.65) plus A$0.30. You keep A$98.05, and 2.0% of the sale goes to the fee.

### Is GST added on top of the fee shown?

No. Stripe's Australian page states that its card, Zip and PayTo fees include GST, so A$1.95 on A$100 is the whole amount taken. There is nothing to add afterwards.

### What does an international card cost compared with a local one?

A$3.80 compared with A$1.95 on A$100, because the rate is 3.5% rather than 1.65%. Stripe's page notes lower international card pricing from 1 Apr 2027, and this tool uses the rate in force today.

### How much does conversion add to an international card?

2% more, giving 5.5% + A$0.30. On A$100 that is A$5.80, which leaves A$94.20.

### When does the PayTo and BECS cap apply?

Both are 1% + A$0.30, cap A$3.50. The A$3.50 cap is reached at A$319.80, so a A$1,000 payment costs A$3.50 on PayTo and A$16.80 on a local card.

### What should I charge to receive A$150 after fees?

Charge A$152.82 on a local card; the fee on that is A$2.82, and what remains is A$150.

### Why do very small sales cost so much?

The fixed A$0.30 stays put. On A$5 the fee is A$0.38, which is 7.6%; on A$20 it is A$0.63, or 3.2%.

### How old are these rates?

The Australian pricing page was read on 19 Oct 2026. The dispute received fee shown there is A$25.00.
